Volunteer Opportunities

The New Canaan Historical Society is an organization of volunteers; as we continue to grow, we need your help.  There are opportunities in widely varied areas: museum interpretation; teaching; crafts; historical, genealogical or costume research; archival assistance; social events and many other interests.

Bullet EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

If you enjoy working with school-age children, if you love history, this is the place for you.   Our School Program on Early American Life provides wonderful experiences for school groups to see and experience what life was like for children in the Colonial period of America.   Check our program description to learn more about the educational tours.

Bullet MUSEUM DOCENTS

If you love history and sharing your knowledge with others, then our Museum Docent Program is right for you.   The Historical Society complex houses the Hanford-Silliman Farmhouse Museum, the Tool Museum, Rock School and the studio of New Canaan sculptor John Rogers.  Look at our museum tours to learn where docents are needed.

Bullet LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS

If you love history, solving mysteries, enjoy organizing records, working alone or with a good friend, then join our family of dedicated library volunteers.
